Experience

I have just completed a Master's degree in education from a small, liberal arts college in Baltimore and am a Maryland - certified teacher in grades 1 - 6. I don't just help students with homework, which doesn't address the real gaps in a student's understanding; instead, I target the problem by using ongoing assessment to see what areas the student really needs help in. This ensures the student gets the most out of the tutorial because time isn't wasted covering material he/she is already proficient in. I use a variety of research-based and effective instructional methods to address these areas of weakness. I have experience tutoring students ranging in age from kindergarten to 7th grade. I also have classroom teaching experience and have worked with students with ADHD, emotional disturbance, autism, and specific learning disabilities. I prefer tutoring to classroom teaching because it really allows me to target and address the needs of the individual student. I am most passionate about reading and love to find books that will spark a student's own passion in reading. I work hard for my students. I really take the time to plan for tutorials so that the time I spend with students is used efficiently and effectively. I also carefully track each student's progress to ensure that he/she is making gains in the targeted area.
