Experience
I've taught in a bilingual classroom for nine years. During this time, I've taught prekindergarten, first grade, and third grade, and I worked with gifted students as well as students who were struggling below the current grade level. I've been able to work with many students from diverse backgrounds. When I work with students, I focus on their individual needs, and I encourage them to develop critical thinking skills. I also adapt my teaching strategy to match the way they learn, and I draw on many different resources to help students learn effectively. Being a teacher in a bilingual classroom is a special challenge, but it's very engaging and motivating as well. Bilingual students need special attention in the learning process, and I enjoy providing that. Some may excel in certain parts of their native language and need help in their second language with fluency. For example, a student may have very strong speaking skills in their native tongue, but they haven't mastered grammar or spelling. On the other hand, they may struggle to speak their second language while they are proficient in writing it. Every student is different, so it's up to the teacher to identify these learning needs and address them.
