ExperienceI have been a tutor since my final years in High School in Germany and my love for instruction, linguistics, and psychology have turned into my career. I am a professional tutor and learning coach with a strong educational background and year-long experience. Working with me will help not only with the subject you be struggling with but will provide life skills that can be applied almost anywhere in life.
I tutor all age groups and design material that fit my students. I aim to help my students find their intrinsic motivators that make learning fun. I sepcialize working with juniors and seniors in High School to prepare them for the final stages, to develop test-taking skills, get organized, and stay on track and motivated. I also work closely with first-year college students, transfers, international students, and non-traditional students to help adjust to a new environment, new and changing demands, and establish or strength a sense of competence and autonomy.
I have been an instructor of German (university level) for the past 10 years and moved into Psychology (motivation, learning skills and strategies, instructional methods) in 2010.
I am a very patient instructor and coach, and I like to incorporate fun material that is tailored to my student's interests and needs. Usually, I develop and design my own material to supplement and fill in gaps.
In sum, I have been a tutor since 2002 (2002-2007 in Germany, 2007/2008 in Massachusetts and 2008-2014 in Texas, and since 2014 in Colorado) teaching German, English, Latin, Math, Geography, reading, writing and study skills.
My specialty areas:
- Study skill development;
- Organizational skills;
- Motivation and interest development;
- Career development;
- Foreign and second language acquisition;
- German (I am a native speaker), -English as a Second/Foreign Language;
- Creative and academic writing.
HobbiesI love dogs, cats and horses. My husband and I have a Mastiff/Great Dane (Kaija), a Saint Bernard (Koda) and a cat (Alfonso).
I also like to play sports, and found Crossfit to combine most of the things I like.
Being European I love traveling, learning about and trying different things (i.e. food).
I am excited we moved from Texas to Colorado, as I am a skiing fanatic :)
Basically, I am very active, interested in my environment and love to teach and learn.

So, I started using Anke as a tutor, I believe in June. I can not say enough nice things about her. She is ALWAYS on time or early and respects your schedule so her sessions begin and end on time. The other 2 reviews are spot on! I have a really hard time with learning languages and her patience, persistence, native knowledge and dedication to teaching me (and of course, others) is the reason I keep seeing her 2/3 times a week and it is completely worth the expense. Her sessions are fun.. she does games for memorization and grammar, brings children's books to help get down the basic functions.. which.. with German is not so easy and learning this language requires some serious study time (as do all languages) but like I said.. she makes it fun! Not to mention, she doesn't rush through anything and unlike some previous tutors.. she develops a relationship and it's not all about "the session" she makes sure that you actually grasp the idea before you move on and if you do not get something right.. well, you don't move on till you do.. especially pronunciation! .. She is absolutely wonderful.. if you want to learn German from the start or you need a tutor to help you along the way.. I would not pass Anke up you probably won't find someone as great!! John
I couldn’t have asked for a better German tutor than Anke. Having been born and raised in Germany, she brings a very interesting perspective about the language and culture to our sessions. She is prompt, organized and prepared for each session. Goals and expectations were defined and set at our first meeting. Work assignments build on each other in a logical manner. She is blessed with an abundance of patience and shows a great deal of enthusiasm when it comes to teaching German. I highly recommend Anke as a German tutor for any level of proficiency you wish to attain. Thomas Schauf.
I've always had difficulty learning a foreign language. I tried both Spanish and Italian in college but couldn't grasp the concepts involved in the languages. To meet UT's requirement I had to complete 18 hours of foreign language in order to graduate. I was worried and completely stressed out that I would be unable to graduate based on my poor performance in the prior attempts to learn a language.I decided on taking German because English is a Germanic language, and I figured I might be able to connect better with a language not based in Latin. I contacted University Tutor to find someone who could help me. I found Anke, and she literally changed my life. Her patience and unique approach to teaching language made all the difference for me. She tutored me all summer long, and with her help I was able to graduate by my expected graduation date. There's no doubt in my mind that without her I couldn't have learned the language. I ended up finishing 18 hours of German with a collected 3.25 GPA in three semesters of the language. I highly recommend Anke to anyone trying to learn German. Her ability to effectively convey the concepts of the language was unmatched by my previous foreign language teachers. If you, like me, struggle with learning a language, contact Anke immediately. She's a lifesaver.
